In addition to supporting Cecil County 4-H, local agricultural groups, and providing funding for scholarships throughout the year, we hold a variety of events and partner for community outreach.
2020 Before we were interrupted by COVID-19 shutdowns, we partnered with our local Cecil County AARP Tax-Aide volunteers to provide a free location for their community outreach for free tax preparation from February 4 through mid-March. We resumed as a tax preparation site for June through July. Our location was the only AARP Tax-Aide site located in Maryland and only one of a few hundred reopened in the United States.
Fundraisers held in June through October benefited our Agriculture Scholarship fund. In November 2020, we hosted author L. Harvey Kirk III for a virtual history presentation titled West By North East: The Kirks of Cecil & Chester Counties. The Kirk family, as well as the Browns, Gatchells, Haines, Hughes, England, and Reynolds families were mentioned. In addition, historic properties (houses and farms) built and lived in by the Kirks were showcased in the presentation.
2019 December Grange member Eileen Hostetler shared her love of the card making craft as she hosted a holiday card making session.
July Maria Pippidis, University of Delaware Cooperative Extension Educator, presented information on how to can with a boiling water bath. She also tested pressure gauges. Attendees entered to win a variety of prizes: canning books, jars, and canning implements. Donations for this event were generously provided by Filmore Container in Lancaster, PA.
June On June 21, we held our annual Dairy Night. This is event celebrates the work of Cecil County dairy farmers. Our event this year was attended by 120 people in dairy farming families.

Ms. Pippidis detailed the types of insurance available on the Maryland Health Connection, reviewed common insurance terms that everyone should know, and provided a workbook for calculating projected healthcare needs vs. actual costs. One local farmer projected he will save over $600 per month and obtain a better healthcare plan by using the information presented at the session.
March On March 23, we hosted a small group quilling activity in March. Quilling is the centuries-old craft of shaping paper into delicate pleats or folds. Our instructor, Elizabeth McCullough, had over thirty years of quilling experience. In addition to instruction on quilling techniques, Mrs. McCullough provided a bit about the history of quilling and insights on how to make money designing custom quilling artwork.
February On February 23, we partnered with our local Cecil County AARP Tax-Aide volunteers to provide a free location for their community outreach on Maryland Tax Day.
